20 April 2005   KMC key customer awarded His Royal Highness Prince Henrik’s Medal of Honour
On April 18, 2005 Mr. Eijiro Matsutani was presented with His Royal Highness Prince Henrik’s Medal of Honour and with the Danish Export Association's Diploma. The ceremony took place at the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo, Japan.

The merit award was presented by the Danish Ambassador to Japan, H.E. Poul Hoiness in the presence of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Frederik, members of Mr. Matsutani’s family and key personnel from Matsutani Chemical Industry Co. From KMC President Mr. Uffe Andreasen, Sale and Marketing Director Mr. Hans Henrik Nielsen and Commercial Manager for Japan Mr. Jens Helmer Larsen participated.

In his speech Ambassador Hoiness stated the reasons for the presentation by emphasizing the long and positive cooperation between Matsutani and KMC, which began back in 1963 when Mr. Matsutani visited Denmark in connection with the purchase of some machinery. During his visit he heard of Danish potato starch and a meeting was arranged between him and the managing director of AKS, the potato starch factory in Toftlund, Mr. Kaj Dalsgaard who later became President of KMC.

A regular cooperation began somewhat later and today this has developed into a considerable business with future strategies and international perspectives. The well-established cooperation was recently further cemented when KMC’s Chairman Jørn Outzen visited Matsutani Corp. at the company headquarters in Osaka.

After the actual ceremony, which took place in a relaxed but solemn atmosphere the participants enjoyed a glass of champagne.

Later the same day the entire party participated in the official welcome banquet for Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary arranged by the Danish Society in Japan. Their Imperial Highnesses Prince Hitachi, brother of the Japanese Emperor, and Princess Hitachi also participated in the banquet as well as Danish vice prime minister Bendt Bendtsen.
