Christian’s account of his cooperation with KMC - so far. “I first got in contact with KMC during the writing of my bachelor thesis. Three fellow students and I got in contact with KMC CEO Uffe Andreasen who presented us with a very interesting and challenging problem statement concerning the future possibilities for KMC. This was the beginning of a very positive rewarding corporation between KMC and us. We all passed our final examination satisfactorily, to a large extent because of KMC’s cooperativeness and the positive way KMC acted as a sparring partner. After our final exam we all wanted to add on our academic skills by studying for a graduate/Master degree within our individual fields off interest. In late August 2006 I started studying for my masters within international Industrial Marketing and Purchasing (IMP). This meant that I had to find a company that was willing to act as my mentor company during my studies. Because of my excellent past experience with KMC I immediately contacted Uffe Andreasen who quickly set up meeting between CCO Bjarne Larsen and me. Without hesitation Bjarne Larsen agreed to take me on as a mentee and we quickly came to an agreement on what my role and KMC’s role should be in order to reach a mutually beneficial collaboration. Since then I work at KMC two days a week. My tasks at KMC are very versatile, challenging and last but not least rewarding. It gives me a unique possibility of developing both my practical and also my theoretical skills as I can see first hand how things work theoretically and how it is in “the real world”. Because of the close collaboration between KMC and me, and the collaborative nature of the KMC employees, I have the ability to use KMC as a case study in the papers and assignments I turn in during my studies. One of the papers that I wrote with a fellow student concerned the concept of customer commitment and how this concept changes during the development of a Business to business relationship. During our work process we used KMC as a sparring partner. The sales managers at KMC put us in contact with a number of their customers, which gave us a unique possibility to test our theoretical findings empirically. The paper was turned in to a competition sponsored by a Danish financial institution, Jyske Bank; it won first price - to a large extent because of the help provided by KMC. Bjarne Larsen was invited to the awards ceremony, so in turn for their cooperativeness KMC got some positive PR – it’s always nice to be nice. The collaboration between KMC and me has by far surpassed my expectations. I have no doubt that my time spent here has improved both my theoretical and practical skills, making me a more valuable asset for the companies that might hire me in the future.” |
