| 09 July 2007 | Starch potato farmers in the EU were in high spirits during the
spring until mid-June. Weather conditions indicated a good harvest. Sunshine
and rain in just the perfect amount and combination. The rain unfortunately continued and at the end of June we could register the rainiest June ever in Danish history. The abnormal rainfall with driving rain and hail has dampened the harvest expectations not only in Denmark, but also in the rest of Europe. In many areas the weather situation has been extreme. Conclusion: A fair, but no extraordinary harvest is still expected. Combined with the facts of increasing demands due to higher prices for other starch types and empty carry over stocks relatively high prices can be expected. |

In spite of agronomist Christian Feder’s smile the Danish farmers are concerned about the heavy rain!! |
