The 2003 campaign - Irrigation systems made the difference
The 3 KMC potato starch factories all finished the campaign before Christmas with a production that reached 100% of the EU production quota.

The harvest year started with excellent conditions for establishment of the new crop, which that gave promise of a good harvest. The cool and rainy June also was beneficial for the potatoes. Then in late July and August extreme heat and dry conditions were typical in most of Europe and the Danish farmers had to use all their skills – and irrigation systems – to keep the potato fields green and growing.

It turned into an extremely busy period for the farmers, but once again the fact that almost all the KMC potato areas have irrigation systems guaranteed a stable harvest.

The earlier expectations of a bumper crop were, however, replaced by more modest expectations. The warm and dry weather continued and resulted in perfect conditions for harvesting the potatoes. The potatoes were of a good quality with good starch content and very low dirt.

All in all, a good harvest and a good campaign.
